Premessa
Il momento è epico, l’ecosistema d internet è messo alla prova e noi siamo chiamati a difenderlo. Vecchi regimi approvano nuove leggi e nuovi regolamenti per sostenere sistemi fallimentari che nessuno vuole davvero.
Internet, oggi, non è solamente una realtà virtuale, ma un network che può materializzarsi in forme diverse: nei tribunali, nei parlamenti, nelle reti telefoniche, ma anche nei memi, nella musica e nell’arte. Internet è una metodologia, non è un luogo.
L’idea della Embassy of Piracy ha preso forma quando The Pirate Bay è stata invitata alla Biennale di Venezia nel contesto dell’Internet Pavilion. Come ambasciata, il nostro compito è quello di rappresentare la libertà di Internet, dei suoi pirati e di promuovere lo stile di vita Kopimi.

L’ambasciata assume la forma moltiplicabile e modificabile della piramide. Attraverso il download del modello in carta, presente sul nostro sito, puoi materializzare l’ambasciata ovunque: negli spazi pubblici, nella foresta, al lavoro, a scuola, sul tuo tavolo da pranzo…

PADIGLIONE INTERNET
Alla cinquantatreesima biennale Biennale di Venezia sarà presentato un nuovo padiglione, il Padiglione Internet. Visto il tema della mostra di quest’anno, “Fare mondi”, è logico che l’internet venga rappresentato, per la prima volta, con un proprio padiglione.
Internet è una nuova parte del nostro mondo, mai rappresentata a Venezia, è un territorio differente rispetto ai padiglioni esistenti.
Internet non è definito da confini, nazionalità o da una lingua specifica. Internet è ancora nuova e si sviluppa ad una velocità tale che la sua legislazione, come il suo impatto sulle nostre vite, è in costante ridefinizione. Internet sta trasformando le nostre vite e i nostri sensi; sta trasformando il modo in cui ci comportiamo, comunichiamo, condividiamo informazioni e sviluppiamo idee. Siccome spesso si dice che l’arte faccia esattamente queste cose, c’è un interesse particolare nel presentare il Padiglione Internet alla Biennale.
Il padiglione è composto da due siti internet:
- www.PadiglioneInternet.com, ospita una collaborazione tra Miltos Manetas e Rafael Rozendaal. Aprirà il 3 giugno è come le sedi fisiche della Biennale, chiuderà i battenti a Novembre.
- www.Biennale.net, è il sito in cui si rende pubblica la discussione e la storia del progetto e, al tempo stesso, è l’ingresso per alcune mostre collaterali: tra queste: - "New Wave", an online show with a physical component featuring Petra Cortright (US), Harm Van den Dorpel (HO), Sinem Erkas (UK), Elna Frederick (US), Martijn Hendriks (NE), Parker Ito (US), Oliver Laric (AU), Guthrie Lonergan (US) and Pascual Sisto (US).
- The WikepediaArt Embassy costruita da Scott Kildall(US) and Nathaniel Stern (US). -Una mostra on line di artisti cinesi attivi in Internet. - AIDS-3D (US) con: "Network of Love" una performance che si terrà, anche fisicamente, al S.a.L.E, durante i giorni dell’opening. Gli inviti per questo evento saranno spediti via Twitter e Facebook.
- L’ultimo video di Aleksandra Domanovic(SE)
Infine, il 3 giugno, a partire dalle 12, al S.a.L.E., Christian Wassmann costruirà PAGES, un’architettura trasportabile, mobile e reticolare che l’architetto ha progettato per il Padiglione Internet.
Il Padiglione Internet è costruito in collaborazione con i musicisti inglesi Gnac (Marc Trammer) e Howie B e con la collaborazione dell’architetto Christian Wassmann. Il Design e i gadgets sono di M/M (Paris), il web design è di Marc Kremers e Thomas Eberwein del Digital Club di Londra. L’artista Greco residente a Londra, Miltos Manetas, è l’ideatore del progetto.

RAMALLAH SYNDROME PERFORMANCE

La performance è parte del progetto Ramallah Syndrome* presentato a Palestine c/o Venice da Sandi Hilal and Alessandro Petti in conversazione con Nasser Abourahme, Yazeed Anani, Laura Ribeiro, Reem Fadda, Omar Jabary-Salamanca e Yazan Khalili.
Palestine c/o Venice, Ex Convento Cosma e Damiano, Giudecca, Vaporetto fermata Palanca.
Opening reception: 6 Giugno, 5.00 pm.
*Il progetto esamina gli “effetti collaterali” del nuovo ordine spaziale e sociale emerso in Palestina dopo il collasso del “Processo di Pace di Oslo” e che si manifesta in una sorta di “allucinazione di normalità”, l’illusione di far coesistere libertà e occupazione. La serie di conversazioni è una critica associata alle forme di resistenza e soggiogazione alla condizione neocoloniale.
Ramallah Syndrome Sound-System inizia con una raccolta di materiali che confluiscono, rielaborati, in un’installazione sonora presentata al padiglione palestinese Palestine c/o Venice. La performance in programma al S.a.L.E. non è una replica, ma un ri-esame dell’opera. Un momento in cui riprendere parti dell’opera originale in un’esplorazione dinamica, in una sperimentazione di materiali trovati e d’archivio, registrazioni ambientali e musica elettronica.

THE EMBASSY OF PIRACY
Background
Time is epic, the ecosystem of the Internet is tested and we are here to defend it. Old regimes are passing new laws and new regulations to uphold a failing system that nobody really wants.
An internet today is not some virtual entity, but a network that can materialize in everything from court systems, parliaments and phone networks to memes, music and art systems. Internet is a methodology, not a place.
The idea of an Embassy of Piracy came up when Piratbyrån and The Pirate Bay got invited to contribute to first Internet Pavilion that will be part of this years Venice Biennial. As an Embassy our task is to represent the freedom of Internet and pirates of Internet and to promote the Kopimi way of life.
The Embassy
The Embassy has multipliable and modifiable form in shape of a pyramid. By downloading and printing out the foldable paper model you can make the Embassy materialize anywhere; in public spaces, in the forest, at work, school or on your dinner table or for your pets.
Remember, when you form an Embassy, you are legally within internet territory. Together we will multiply a growing number of Embassies all over the world. Share your photos of The Embassy on the http://embassyofpiracy.org

THE INTERNET PAVILION
At the 53rd Venice Biennial (opening to the public on 7th June), a completely new pavilion will be presented - the Internet Pavilion. With the theme for this year’s biennial, “Making Worlds”, it is only logical that the Internet is represented, for the first time, by a pavilion of its own. The Internet is a new part of our world that has never been represented in Venice. It is a different territory from the existing pavilions. The Internet is not defined by physical or geographical borders, nationalities, or a specific language. The Internet is still new and is being developed with such speed that its legislation, as well as its impact on our lives, is under constant redefinition. The Internet is transforming our lives and senses; it is transforming the way we behave, communicate, share information and develop ideas. As this is what we often say art does, it is of special interest to present the Internet Pavilion at the Venice Biennial. The pavilion is composed by two websites: - www.PadiglioneInternet.com, hosts a collaboration by Miltos Manetas and Rafael Rozendaal. It will open on June 03 and similar to the physical buildings of the Exhibition, it will close down in November. - www.Biennale.net, holds the discussion and the history of the project and at the same time it is the "entrance" for a number of collateral exhibitions and projects. Among them: - "New Wave", an online show with a physical component featuring Petra Cortright (US), Harm Van den Dorpel (HO), Sinem Erkas (UK), Elna Frederick (US), Martijn Hendriks (NE), Parker Ito (US), Oliver Laric (AU), Guthrie Lonergan (US) and Pascual Sisto (US). - The WikepediaArt Embassy hosted by Scott Kildall(US) and Nathaniel Stern (US). - An online show with Chinese Internet artists. - AIDS-3D (US) will be holding a special "Network of Love" performance during the opening days. Invitations for this event will be send via Twitter and Facebook. - The latest video by Aleksandra Domanovic(SE) Finally, on June 03, Christian Wassmann, will build "PAGES", the perfectly mobile (he brought it with him in the plane from NYC), absolutely habitable and amazingly "web" architecture he designed for the Internet Pavilion. A video that explains Mr. Wassmann mental process can be found here. The Internet Pavilion is built in collaboration with British composers, Gnac (Mark Tranmer) and Howie B and the Swiss/NY based architect Christian Wassmann. Design and propaganda objects are by M/M (Paris) and Web Design is by Marc Kremers and Thomas Eberwein of Digital Club, London. The Internet Pavilion is a project initiated by the Greek born, London based artist Miltos Manetas, curated by Jan Aman and produced by Art Production Fund.

*The project examines the side effects of the new spatial and social order emerged in Palestine after the collapse of the “Oslo Peace Process” and manifested in a kind of ‘hallucination of normality’, the illusion of a co-existence of freedom and occupation. The series of conversations is a critique and potentiality associated with forms of resistance and subjugation to the neocolonial condition.
The Ramallah Syndrome Sound System is a re-examination of the material, picking up threads from the sound installation in a dynamic exploration and experimentation of ‘found’ footage, archive sample, audio-video location recordings, and heavy electronic music. This material is critically re-interpreted and imbued with new meaning through juxtaposition and multiple audio-video layering, allowing a narrative to emerge and for the audience to experience another level of the project. By ‘mashing-up’ and reconstructing what seem like disparate bits of film and audio emerges the possibility of critically and playfully illuminating the ruptured commonalities and connections between people and places in Palestine.
